How to Tell Your Indian Parents That You Need Therapy: Tips for Navigating a Tough Conversation
In many Indian families, the idea of going to therapy can be met with confusion, skepticism, or even outright...
Off your Shoulders (OYS) aims to create a safe, therapeutic space for clients that are burdened by life-stressors that pile on to become a massive weight on your shoulders.
Suffering is a part of life, and while it will never completely go away, humans are meant to affect each other in ways that reduce the impact of life’s pains and burdens. Sharing the lightness of joy and the weight of pain is the basis of all fulfilling relationships. At Off Your Shoulders, I ensure that this philosophy is embeded in the therapeutic relationship. I practice what I preach!

I have experience working with diagnosed/undiagnosed depression, anxiety, personality disorders, OCD, and trauma-related disorders. As a qualified and competent psychotherapist, I adopt a variety of therapeutic modalities to effectively treat clients. It is a personal commitment to engage in consistent upskilling and regular supervision. Therapy with Off Your Shoulders, like any other therapy firm, is completely confidential. I go the extra mile to keep therapy notes off any backup clouds and password-protected to ensure your comfort.
I am Nikita, a passionate therapist with an untamable curiosity for all things relationships.
Qualified with an MA in Clinical and Counselling Psychology from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, I specialize in relationship issues—platonic, parental, familial, romantic, professional, and intra-personal. I work with individuals, couples, and families, using a psychodynamic framework to help clients explore unconscious processes as they manifest in their present behavior. My practice is grounded in consistent relational work, ensuring a focused and compassionate approach.

Individual therapy is a one-on-one session between a therapist and a client. This form of therapy aims to help individuals explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

Couple therapy, also known as marriage counseling or couples counseling helps partners in a relationship improve their communication, resolve conflicts & strengthen their connection.

Family therapy, also known as family counseling, involves treating the family as a whole to improve relationships and resolve issues within the family unit.

'Therapists are great help', I often had this belief but seldom tried myself, as I was bit sceptical about therapy sessions, until one day when my mental health compelled me to take the therapy. I was dealing with overthinking, guilt, and internal conflicts that deteriorated my mental and physical health. With Ms Nikita, I had my first experience of what it means to have a therapist, she tried to understand me as a person, my life journey and my beliefs. She helped me improve and suggested tools to overcome the situation. These tools were easily doable and rewarding. She is kind, empathetic and compassionate. I am grateful to her.

I stumbled upon Nikita's services by chance, much like any other encounter with a therapist. However, her impact on my life has been profound. Her patience and non-judgmental aura create a space where I feel comfortable opening up and reflecting. Through our sessions, she has guided me to explore aspects of myself that I had previously closed off. Without her support, I believe I would be in a vastly different place in life. Our relationship has evolved beyond that of a traditional therapist-client dynamic; she has become someone who helps me gain a deeper understanding of myself, enabling me to navigate life's complexities with greater clarity.

"Nikita was my first ever therapist. I remember the day I decided to take on therapy and I was super scared and hesitant to even get onto the call, but the transition from hesitating to fully looking forward to the conversations was the most comfortable. Everything that was said and heard was so meaningful and every advise completely changed my life for the better. Honestly, I could have never imagined my therapy session with anyone else apart from Nikita. I really want to thank you for helping me understand me and my emotions and for helping me navigate through it all."
